Business After School

Today’s Students –

Tomorrow’s Workforce

Dubuque, IA – The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce understands that today’s students are tomorrow’s workforce. The 21st century global marketplace demands a highly skilled, trained, and educated talent pool. Connecting business to education in order to increase successful outcomes for the Dubuque area is a priority of our organization. Business After School (BAS), the Chamber’s newest partnership program will be a three-day event held on February 3rd thru February 5th that creates experiential and work-based learning opportunities for students, educators and teachers. We will be focused on the high-demand job sectors of advanced manufacturing, engineering, healthcare, IT/computer science, and general business.

This opportunity is open to 8th-12th grade students, parents and educators who have an interest in learning more about careers in our region. Participating businesses will host a two hour open house event that will engage students through site tours, interactive problem solving activities, presentations on employment and career outlook within the industries. There is no cost to attend. Registration is required.

The Chamber’s new Business After School event is made possible through the partnership of several organizations that share common workforce goals and priorities. Dubuque Community School District (DCSD), East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA), Dubuque Area Labor Management (DALMC) and Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) are collaborating with the Chamber to create meaningful career connections for students and employers. This program is made possible through funding partners,

Prosperity Eastern Iowa and Iowa Economic Development Authority.
